WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Lisa Murkowski announced today that she is promoting two staff members to senior positions in her Alaska operations – to bolster her work and responsiveness in-state.

Miles Baker, presently a legislative assistant for finance and budgeting in her Washington, DC office, will be her new Alaska State Director, and run day-to-day operations in the state. Bob Walsh in her Anchorage office is being appointed as her Deputy State Director.

“With a deep political and cultural knowledge of all of Alaska – from rural areas to our urban hubs – this change will help me better serve Alaskans,” said Murkowski. “I am thrilled to have a team like Miles and Bob working for me and for the state I love.”

Before working for Senator Murkowski, Baker was senior staffer for Senator Bert Stedman (R-Sitka) in Juneau, where he worked on state finance and appropriations policy for the Senate Finance Committee. Baker began his professional career as an officer in the U.S. Marine Corps. He graduated from West Anchorage High School and the U.S. Naval Academy, and received an MBA from UCLA’s Anderson School of Business.

Bob Walsh has worked for Senator Murkowski in the Anchorage Office for the last three years. Prior to working for Senator Murkowski, Walsh was a Legislative assistant for the Late State Representative Richard Foster of Nome. Walsh was born in Fairbanks and lived for years in Nome.
