On Sunday, the Bureau of Highway Patrol-Kenai Peninsula team, performed a traffic stop on a white 2007 Hyundai for an equipment violation at mile 104 of the Seward Highway. The traffic stop resulted in two arrests.
After pulling over the white Hyundai, troopers contacted and identified the driver, 27-year-old Christopher L. Lorentsen, and the passenger in the vehicle, 24-year-old Zachary M. Bourbannais, both of Anchorage.
While at the scene, troopers also identified Marijuana cultivation equipment in the vehcle. During the investigation, it was found that both the driver and passenger were in possession of handguns. The handgun iin Bourbannais’s possession, was found to have been stolen in Anchorage.
Both men were arrested.
An Anchorage WAANT unit was called and arrived on the scene. The vehicle was seized and impounded. A search warrant was requested and granted for a search of the vehicle. According to the trooper dispatch, a significant amount of marijuana was found during the search.
Anchorage Police also were called in to interview Bourannais about the stolen handgun.
Both Lorentsen and Bourbannais were transported to the Anchorage Jail where they were remanded.
Lorentsen was charged with two counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV and VI, and two counts of Misconduct Involving Weapons II and V.
Bourbannais was charged with two counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV and VI, two counts of Misconduct Involving Weapons II and V, and Theft II.
