Gingrich has repeatedly dismissed any calls from his competitors to drop out of the race for the presidency.
Spokesman for the Gingrich camp, R.C. Hammond has said that Gingrich is staying in the race on the belief that the other two leading candidates, Santorum and Romney are simply not strong enough to beat President Obama in November.
Both Romney and Santorum supporters do not believe this is so, and Gingrich has been asked to quit following the Super Tuesday voting.
Gingrich continues to say he is going to stick it out until the Convention in Florida. Many think Gingrich’s motives are to reach the convention with his delegates and use them to endorse one of the competition making him in effect a King-Maker. A recent Gallup poll shows that Gingrich’s supporters are close to evenly split as to their second choice if Gingrich drops out. The polls showed Romney at 40% and Santorum at 39%.
Whether Gingrich can hold out until Florida is in question. Cash is running low and supporters are beginning to complain that they aren’t getting paid. Although they have been told repeatedly, the check is in the mail.
Advisors are also beginning to mutter anonymously. One such person, unnamed, said, . “If he’s going, I’ll go with him because I’m a loyalist, but, no, I don’t think he should.” Another said, in order for Gingrich to continue, he needed to start winning a few.
