Alaska Park Rangers and the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group are assessing hazardous snow conditions and will make a possible attempt at retrieving the remains of a snow-machiner who died in a Hatcher Pass avalanche on Saturday, troopers have revealed.
Alaska State Troopers responded to the Hatcher Pass Lodge after receiving the report of the incident and spoke with the two remaining riders.
According to the report, three men were riding snow machines on the a trail on the Willow side of Hatcher Pass on Saturday when one of the riders, and his machine, were swept off of the trail by an avalanche.
The man’s riding partners were able to locate the injured man after the avalanche and extricate him from the snow, but despite their efforts to revive him, the man succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the man has yet to be released.
Low light and blizzard conditions prevented retrieval of the man’s body on Saturday, further attempts will be considered today.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
