After Wednesday night's Powerball numbers were released, there is a single winner today. That single winner is due to collect $400 million in winnings for computer generated numbers bought at a Murphy USA convenience store/gas station in South carolina.
$400 million is one of the biggest prizes ever generated by the multi-state lottery. That huge prize can be given out in an annual annuity or in a lump sum, the winner can take an annual payout of $13 million per year for the next 29 years, or get a lump-sum payment of $223 million, which after taxes, would be approximately $134 million.
The winner of the 43-state Powerball has yet to come forward, and because of South carolina privacy laws, the winner is not required to reveal his/her name, so the identity may never be largly be known by the public.
The manager of the store where the winning ticket out of the 356 tickets bought just prior to the drawing, was awakened by phone by lottery officials early this morning and notified of the store’s part in the winning ticket. The convenience store stands to receive $50,000 for selling the winning piece of paper. The manager, after arriving at the store, posted a sign in the front window of the store urging ticket buyers to look at their tickets.
The winning numbers in this latest winning drawing were 7-10-22-32-35-powerball 19. The odds of winning the Powerball lottery is 1 in 175 million.
