Even though the flyers posted around Bethel turned out to be a hoax that was the product of a feud between two residents of the southwestern Alaska town of 6,200 people, Taco Bell came to Bethel even if it was only for one day.

When the hoax was laid bare and the residents of the community found out the truth, disappointment reigned in Bethel.

Taco Bell Executives got wind of the hoax and decided to do something about it, last week Taco Bell Greg Creed told the media, “If we can feed people in Afghanistan and Iraq, we can feed people in Bethel.”

And they did. Yesterday Taco Bell delivered a Taco Bell truck to Bethel. A helicopter airlifted the truck and set it down at the Cultural Center in Bethel.

At 1 pm, the taco feast began, many of the town’s 6,200 residents came out to enjoy a Taco Bell taco or two. The feast lasted four hours. Film and social media crews from Taco Bell were onhand to document the occasion.

“We want to interview the community to talk about great things that are being done in the Bethel,” CEO Craig Creed told Bethel Radio station KYUK. “And then have a social presence. We have about 8.5 million Facebook followers. And what we want to do is get some recognition for all the great things happening in Bethel.”

Taco Bell’s Facebook and Twitter are abuzz with the news of the event.

Sunday’s event just goes to show, sometimes when you can’t just up and go to Taco Bell, Taco Bell will come to you.
