In yesterday's West Virginia Primary, a Texas inmate, who ran against Obama in 2008, ran against him again on Tuesday and this time took away 41% of the vote. Keith Judd, Texas inmate number 11593-051 grabbed 69,766 votes in that state. This gives him at least one delegate from the state. But party officials are looking into that today saying that no filed as a national convention delegate in support of Judd.
President Obama, who is anti-coal, is very unpopular in the state of West Virginia and many voters came out not to vote for anyone but rather to vote against Obama. He lost to Hillary Clinton there in the 2008 Primaries by 41 points, he also lost there by 13 points to John McCain in the 2008 General Election. He won 59% of the vote yesterday.
Even though Obama is unpopular there, the state is decidedly a Democrat state. The Dems outnumber the GOP in the state and it shows, all officials at the state level are Democrats as is the Governor of the state.
Even though Judd is a felon and is serving a 17.5 year sentence in the Federal Correctional Center in Texarkana for extortion, in order to be included on the West Virginia ballot all he needed to do was pay the $2,500 filing fee and have his certificate of announcement notarized. The primaries in West Virginia are open to independent voters and so Obama had more than Democrats casting votes yesterday.
President Obama rarely visits the state of West Virginia.
