KOTZEBUE, ALASKA-After two years of construction, at a cost of $40 million, the new Nullagvik Hotel, owned by NANA Development Corporation opened its doors for the first time on Monday. The new hotel is located on Shore Avenue.
Welcoming guests from around the world, the new Nullagvik Hotel is set to carry on the tradition of the old hotel that was opened in 1975. The word Nullagvik means, “A place to rest.”The new hotel has 78 guest rooms, including seven suites. The facility will provide a modern, high-tech meeting space for up to 100 people, a comfortable observation area and a well-equipped fitness center. The hotel includes a full-service restaurant overlooking Kotzebue Sound, with a private dining room available for small meetings or celebrations.
Several NDC companies were involved in the project. WHPacific provided the architectural and interior design. NANA WorleyParsons assisted with the mechanical design; DOWL HKM provided civil engineering; and NANA Construction oversaw the construction side of the effort, managing SKW Eskimos, Inc., a subsidiary of Arctic Slope Regional Corporation. NANA Management Services (NMS), is the management company of the current hotel, and will continue to provide management services for the new property including the restaurant. Approximately 60 people worked on the construction, including native hire.
