It was on Monday afternoon as troopers were on patrol that they observed a 1997 Pontiac Coupe travelling southbound on Gunflint Trail without a front license plate.
Troopers immediately turned around on the road and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle. But, when troopers did so, the vehicle sped away at a high rate of speed. Troopers gave chase.
The vehicle sped through a stop sign at the intersection of Gunflint Trail and Skyview Drive and troopers continued in their efforts to pull the vehicle over. The vehicle kept travelling in the dead end direction of Skyview, and eventually approached the end of the road. It was at that time, as the vehicle was slowing, the passenger in the Pontiac, jumped out the window and fled into the woods on foot.
The vehicle came to a complete stop at the dead end and the driver also exited the vehicle and fled into the woods as well.
Troopers took up the chase on both suspects and would eventually apprehend the driver, who was later identified as 44-year-old Marc McDonald of Wasilla. He was found to be driving while his license was revoked.
Troopers were not as successful in the pursuit of the passenger and did not locate him in the woods, but would later identify the suspect during their investigation of the incident.
McDonald was arrested for Failing to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer, Driving While License Revoked, and Improper Use of Plates. He was transported to and remanded at the Mat Su Pretrial Facility.
McDonald’s bail was set at $2,000.
