The Department of Public Safety disclosed the name of the trooper in the the trooper-involved shooting that took place in Noorvik on Friday after Jeffery Henry exited his home brandiashing a weapon at the conclusion of a stand-off.
The trooper was identified as Trooper Joshua V. Rallo, an eight-year veteran trooper currently assigned to the Fairbanks trooper patrol unit. The Alaska Bureau of Investigation is still investigating the shooting incident that took place in Noorvik.
After the ABI investigation is complete, the Department of Law’s Office of Special Prosecutions and Appeals will review the ABI investigation and determine if the trooper’s actions were appropriate under the circumstance and if all reasonable options of avoiding deadly force were utilized.
Jeffery Henry remains in critical condition in Anchorage, where he was transported for treatment of life-threatening injuries sustained after he exited his home brandishing a weapon and pointing it at troopers after hours of being barricaded in his home in Noorvik.
Troopers initially responded to the community after receiving reports of a man discharging a weapon as he walked around the village on Thursday night at approximately 11:30 pm.
By the time troopers arrived at the village, Henry had already retreated to his home. Additonal resources were called in from Fairbanks. SERT members and a Crisis Negotiation Team were brought in and Southcentral SERT members also responded to the community.
The stand-off continued throughout the day on Friday, until Henry exited his home at which time, still armed, he brandished his weapon at troopers and was fired on.
