Charges of Criminally Negligent Burning II are being forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Justice against two Naukati juveniles for a late Sunday night fire in Naukati according to troopers.

The Alaska State Troopers in Klawock responded to the public school at 9:20 am on Monday for a fire that caused damage to school property in Naukati. The caller reported that at around 10 pm the previous night, a small pile of debris outside the community’s school had caught fire near the entrance.
It was reported that the schools exterior fire suppression system was activated by the fire there. The system quickly extinguished the fire but not before the fire caused minor damage to a storage bin and a picnic table on the premises.
Damages were estimated to be around $300.
The trooper investigation into the incident would find that two juveniles had been shooting off fireworks on Sunday evening while on or around school property when one of the fireworks hit the side of the school building, bounced off and landed into a pile of debris outside the main entrance of tthe building. The pile of debris then caught fire.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
