Alaska State Troopers say that they have identified a suspect in a rash of burglaries that took place in Girdwood during Sunday’s early morning hours.
Troopers say they were notified at approximately 4:30 am on Sunday morning reporting break-in burglaries at Coast Pizza, the Tourist Trap, and the Girdwood Mercantile earlier that morning.
As troopers were responding to the burglary scenes in Girdwood, they were diverted to a single vehicle roll-over near mile 104 of the Seward Highway in the vicinity of Indian. The ensuing investigation at the accident scene revealed that a black 2003 GMC Sierra pickup was traveling northbound when it crossed the center-line, crashed through the guardrail, rolled several times before coming to rest on the railroad tracks.
Several Good Samaritans and the Anchorage Fire Department responded to the incident. The fire department transported the injured driver to the Alaska Native Medical Center in Anchorage for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Following the investigation at the accident scene, troopers continued on to the burglary scenes in Girdwood. During their investigation at one of the burglaries, an item taken during the burglary was found to be the same as one found at the accident scene on the Seward Highway. Following that revelation, troopers continued to gather evidence at the scenes.
Troopers reported that a suspect has been identified and has also been interviewed in the on-going investigation.
