Alaska State Troopers searched for a man reported to be suicidal in the Palmer area after receiving reports on late Monday night.
A call went in to troopers at 11:02 pm from acquaintances of 26-year-old Wasilla resident Daniel Bailey alleging that he was drinking and driving around someplace in the Valley with a gun. The caller reported that he was driving under the influence despite attempts to convince him to stop and to relinquish his weapon.
Troopers would ultimately respond to the Palmer Hay Flats State Refuge Paring area off of Hay-field Road where they located Bailey and his vehicle. After arriving at the scene troopers discovered Bailey dead in the vehicle with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
It was determined that there was no foul play involved in Bailey’s death.
Bailey’s next of kin were notified as well as the office of the State Medical Examiner in Anchorage.
