It was reported by the Village Police officer in Ambler on Monday evening that a young child had been hit in an ATV accident there.
According to the dispatch, the five-year-old child was playing in the roadway when he was hit by a 17-year-old driving on an ATV.
The child was medevaced to Anchorage to be treated for his injuries that included “scrapes, bruises, and fractured bones in his face.”
Troopers responded to the community on Tuesday. Dispatch reports that the troopers were told the child was in an induced coma at the hospital because of his injuries. But, the parents reported five hours later at 3 pm that the child was conscious and in good spirits and did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.
The investigation into the incident is continuing troopers say.
The community of Ambler, with its estimated 258 residents, resides along the north bank of the Kobuk River near where the Ambler and Kobuk Rivers meet. Above the Arctic Circle, Ambler is 138 miles from Kotzebue, the nearest hub city.
