Troopers Investigate Brake Tampering in Coffman Cove

Alaska State troopers are investigating a case of Criminal Mischief and Reckless Endangerment in the community of Coffman Cove on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska, troopers say in a dispatch release. 

Shortly after noon on Tuesday, troopers on Prince of Wales Island received a report from a caller that inform troopers that his brake system on his vehicle had been tampered with. The complaint reported to troopers that ” an unknown individual had placed a pair of vice grips on the rear brake line of his Ford pickup that was parked at the harbor approximately 2 weeks prior.”

The ensuing investigation found that the tampering ” caused significant impairment to the function of the vehicle’s braking system, and resulted in damages estimated at $500,” troopers at the Prince of Wales post say.
