Alaska Wildlife Troopers and Sitka Police responded to the 5300 block of Halibut Point Road at 6:04 pm on Monday after receiving a report of a bear that had attacked, killed and eaten a dog near a residence there.
Responding officers were unable to locate the marauding bear as it had left the area prior to their arrival.
Then, almost almost four hours later, a report of the resident shooting at a bear came in to authorities. The homeowner at the same residence reported that he had shot at a bear that had surprised him in his driveway at 9:57 pm.
Alaska Wildlife Troopers and Alaska Department of Fish and Game responded to the scene, but were once again able to locate the bear.
Troopers and Fish and Game were unable to find any sign that the bear had been hit in the shooting in the area.
