A two-month-long investigation into thefts in the Anchorage and Wasilla areas ended in arrests on Thursday.
The investigation found that David and Genevieve McGrath, both 21-years of age, “were responsible for the theft of several hundred items valued at approximately $10,000 from local retailers,” the trooper dispatch reported.
When drug connections in the case were revealed, the Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit was called in to run a parallel drug investigation.
It was on this Thursday at 11:20 am that the couple was observed conducting a drug transaction and were contacted by troopers. They were found to be in possession of a Schedule 1A controlled substance.
Both McGraths were arrested and transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where they were remanded.
While drug and theft charges were leveled, David was also charged with Residential Burglary and theft of a firearm. David was held without bail and Genevieve’s bail was set at $1,500 plus a court approved third party custodian.
