An Anchorage driver and his passenger sustained injuries in a high-speed chase with troopers on Sunday afternoon on the Sterling Highway, troopers report.
At 3:25 pm on Sunday afternoon, troopers attempted to stop a 2000 Audi Sedan for speeding at mile 70 of the Sterling Highway. But, instead of stopping “the vehicle sped up southbound on the Sterling reaching speeds of over 130 MPH,” the trooper dispatch wrote.
It wasn’t until mile 87 that the vehicle would be disabled through the use of spike strips. Following its encounter with the strips, the vehicle left the roadway, entered the ditch and rolled at least one time before coming to rest upright.
Both individuals were taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Following their release from the hospital, they were booked into the Wildwood Pretrial Facility in Kenai.
The driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Jesse Skjegstad, of Anchorage was charged with Failure to Stop I, Assault III, and Reckless Driving.
The passenger in the vehicle, who initially provided troopers with a false identity, was later identified as 22-year-old Justin Thomassen, also of Anchorage. It was revealed that Thomassen “was on felony probation and had two warrants for his arrest in the amount of $10,500.00,” the trooper dispatch revealed.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
