University of Alaska Fairbanks Police responded to the area of the Cutler Apartments on the UAF campus on Saturday evening for multiple reports of a gunshot.

After arriving on the scene at 6:10 pm, police found a a man, 26-year-old Jason Bourne, a student of the campus dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound by the complex near the Natural Science Building .

Bourne, who was not residing at the campus, was found face-up on the ski trail behind the apartment building.  Police encouraged people to avoid the area as they worked the scene.

According to reports, there was at least one witness to the incident.

Residential advisors were available for counseling after the shooting.

A candlelight vigil was held for Bourne took place on Sunday evening at Constitution Park.

Bourne’s next of kin were notified.
