A Venetie man has been arrested on Murder II charges following a stabbing in that community over the weekend, troopers report.
33-year-old John Fred Roberts was arrested and charged with the stabbing death of 34-year-old Alex Tritt that occurred late Friday night at a drinking party in the community.
According to the trooper report, Roberts had thrown a party at his residence on Friday night with several people in attendance. Tritt also attended the party and after arriving, got into an altercation with Roberts. During the altercation, Tritt was stabbed. He was taken to the community’s clinic, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Troopers were notified of Tritt’s death at 12:43 am Saturday morning. Initial efforts by troopers to respond to Venetie were hampered by lack of an aircraft and pilot, the trooper dispatch reported. Troopers would finally make it to Venetie at approximately 11 am and initiate their investigation.
Troopers located Roberts on Sunday, interviewed him, and took him into custody. After consulting with the District Attorney’s office in Fairbanks, Roberts was charged with “Murder II, Violating Conditions of Release, Failing to Register as a Sex Offender, and outstanding warrants stemming from Disorderly Conduct,” according to the trooper dispatch.
Roberts was transported to Fairbanks where he was remanded to the Fairbanks Correctional Facility without incident.
