During a postal sort at the Ted Stevens International Airport, investigators with the Western Alaska Alcohol and Narcotics Team and United States Postal Service Inspectors encountered a package bound for rural Alaska.

It was determined that the package bore several indicators of a package containing contraband.
K-9 Trooper, Duncan was brought in to check the package. Duncan would detect a scent originating from the parcel. This gave probable cause and a federal search warrant was obtained to further investigate the package.
When the package was searched, investigators found over 8 pounds of marijuana concealed inside.
Investigators estimated the Anchorage “street value” of the marijuana to be approximately $36,960. They further determined the value of the marijuana in the region where the package was headed to be approximately $184,800.
Investigators interviewed the intended reciepient and that person made admissions to the content of the package according to the trooper dispatch.
The investigation into the incident is continueing.
