The discovery of marijuana and marijuana products in luggage at a local air carrier in Anchorage led to a drug bust in Wasilla on Wednesday, troopers report.

The trooper dispatch reported on Thursday that “a North Slope Borough Police investigator, currently assigned to the Anchorage AST WAANT unit located a piece of luggage in a local air carrier’s bag well at the Anchorage Airport that smelled heavy of marijuana.”

Investigators located and contacted the owner of the luggage, identified as Wasilla resident, Tyrone Barr and “interviewed him regarding his travels and his luggage.” Barr stated that he was traveling to Barrow. Troopers say that ” search of Barr’s luggage revealed 477.9 gross grams of processed marijuana along with 1910.8 gross grams of edible marijuana products, and 523.3 gross grams of hashish butter.” Troopers said in their report that the Barrow street value of the marijuana and marijuana products was approximately $200,000.

Barr, who is listed as the owner of Barrow business, a Room with a View bed and breakfast, was arrested and initially charged with two counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance IV. He was transported to the Anchorage Jail where he was remanded and his bail set at $1,500.

WAANT applied for a search warrant for Barr’s residencce and gained the assistance of the Alaska State Troopers Mat-Su Narcotics Unit.

At 12:30 pm on Wednesday, investigators executed the search warrant on Barr’s home and discovered 66 growing marijuana plants and evidence of a previous harvest. Seized from the residence was “5.9 pounds of processed marijuana, approximately 841.68 gross grams of hashish butter, digital scales, hashish filters and a firearm,” troopers reported via dispatch.
