Wasilla Hit and Run Results in Jail on 10 Counts and Two Warrants for Palmer Man

vehicle theftAn early morning hit and run collision on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway resulted in a Palmer man being jailed on a multitude of charges on Thursday.

Alaska State Troopers in Wasilla received a “report of a hit and run collision involving a stolen vehicle” on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway near the Seward Meridian Parkway in Wasilla at 12:45 this morning. 

When troopers responded to the scene, their investigation revealed that 22-year-old Palmer resident, Billy M. Walker had been stopped in a parking lot in a 1996 Chevy Silverado that had previously been reported as stolen. The owner of the vehicle, recognized the vehicle, and attempted to contact Walker. 

Walker, instead, rammed the complainant’s vehicle twice, collided with the building nearby, and sped from the scene. Walker drove to another location on Bogard Road, where the owner caught up to him, and attempted to contact him again. In response, Walker fled from the scene on foot. He was soon apprehended by troopers.

The complainant, had in his vehicle, two adults and two minors at the time of the hit and run incident. One occupant was treated for injuries sustained in the collision by EMS and released at the scene.

Troopers found that Walker had no valid driver’s license and was wanted on two warrants.  They reported that “Walker was arrested on five counts of Assault III, two counts of Criminal Mischief III, Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision, Reckless Driving, NVOL and the two warrants.”

Walker was transported to and remanded at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer and his bail was set at $40,000 on the new charges, and $500 each for the two warrants.

“Charges for Vehicle Theft and separate Theft charges had previously been filed,” troopers report.
