The weekend long search for the suspected killer of the eight-year-old girl in a reported home invasion on Saturday brought no results according to Calaveras County authorities.
Authorities continue to urge residents of the small community of 2,500 to make sure they keep their doors and windows secure as they continue to search for the man they have described as a white or hispanic male with longer gray hair. They say the man was reported to be over six foot tall and last seen wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt and blue pants.

In response to the violent incident, authorities have added extra security to the local schools.
Investigators have collected DNA and fingerprints from the scene and hope that they can develop leads in the case from that evidence. They are also asking residents to report any unexplained sudden departures from the area or to report if they know of individuals with unexplained injuries.
Investigators also report that they continue to interview the 12-year-old brother of the slain girl who has been identified as eight-year-old Leila Fowler. Authorities in the case say that the young boy is not a suspect at this time but was the only one at home with the young girl at the time of the incident. The stabbing occurred around noon on Saturday while the young children’s parents were away from the home at an event. According to the young boy, after discovering the intruder in the home, he called his parents, who in turn, called 911 to report the break-in.
The young girl was found to be severly wounded by the encounter and was taken from her home in Valley Springs to the Mark Twain Medical Center in San Andreas where she succumbed to her injuries.
