A White House national security official was fired for anonymously tweeting harsh criticism of the Obama administration and others.
Jofi Joseph, 40, was a non-proliferation director at the National Security Council and was reportedly involved in nuclear talks with Iran. He was fired a week ago according to the Daily Beast, which broke the story.
Joseph told Politico that he took “complete responsibility for this affair and I sincerely apologize to everyone I insulted.”
Over the course of two years, Joseph’s Twitter account, @natsecwonk, posted hundreds of blistering tweets criticizing former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and other top national security officials, one of whom he accused of dodging questions over the attacks in Benghazi, Libya.
Joseph said the account was a “parody” account, and according to his now deleted bio, he “Unapologetically says what everyone else only thinks. A keen observer of the foreign policy and national security scene. I’m abrasive and bring the snark.” Some of his tweets are still available here.
Obama spokesman Eric Schultz confirmed to Politico that Joseph had left the White House – and that he no longer had his top security clearances.
