On Saturday afternoon, after breaking loose from their anchor in high winds and grounding in Rodman Bay, the crew of the "Flatlander" put out a distress call.
At approximately 1:31 pm, Alaska Wildlife Troopers aboard the P/V “Courage,” repsonded to the call and traveled to Rodman Bay to provide assistance.
When troopers arrived, the three men from the 34-foot vessel had taken shelter in a cabin nearby and were waiting for the high winds to abate and for the tide to come in.
Troopers were able to provide communications assistance and and also get gasoline to the men for the generator until the vessel could be refloated.
The men declined transport back to Sitka and no injuries were reported. They were able to refloat the vessel, which was undamaged, and made their way back to Sitka under their on power on Sunday.
