A 44-year-old inmate at Wildwood Jail alerted the Wildwood Corrections officers there that he had been assaulted in his cell on Sunday.

The inmate jailed in Building 10 reported to officers that two assailants entered his cell while he was sleeping, woke him up and began punching and elbowing him in the head. He also reported that they had stepped on his hand.

He was taken to the facilities medical unit for treatment of his injuries.

The unidentified inmate victim was able to identify the assailants, although their names were not released by the troopers.

The investigation into the incident is continuing.
