A 17-year-old girl suffered severe injuries to her left arm in an ATV rollover on Kodiak Island’s Chiniak Highway on Sunday at approximately noon, the troopers and United State Coast Guard reported this weekend.

USCG responded to mile marker 37 0f the Chiniak Highway via an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter after receiving an “assist request” from the Kodiak Police Department. The teen was medevaced to the Lilly Lake Seaplane Base, where emergency Medical Personnel were awaiting their arrival. Once at the base, the teen was further transported to the Providence Kodiak Island Medical Center for treatment.

Of the four juveniles on the side-by-side ATV, two others received minor injuries and were transported by EMS to Providence as well. The fourth teen aboard the ATV escaped injury and was released at the scene.

The trooper investigation at the scene determined that the driver of the ATV lost control of the vehicle causing it to roll over. It was determined that none of the occupants were wearing seat belts or helmets.

“This is the second all terrain vehicle accident our crews have responded to in the past week,” said Lt. Joseph Schlosser, 17th District command duty officer.   “We cannot stress enough the importance of being mindful of your surroundings and operating within your personal limits while on these types of vehicles.”

Because of the age of the victims, no names were released to the public.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
