Another, smaller earthquake shook Southeast Alaska early this morning. The 4.0 tremblor occurred just to the north of the area where the large 7.6 magnitude quake shook up the region late Friday night.

This morning’s shaker took place 35 miles west southwest of Port Alexander, directly off-shore of the southern tip of Baranof Island 74 miles directly south of Sitka.
This was also a shallow quake, occurring only 6.2 miles beneath the surface of the seafloor. It took place at 5:46 am this morning.
This minor quake did not generate a tsunami report and no damage was reported.
The earlier, larger quake last Friday night has been named as a possible cause of the collapse of sewer pipes in Juneau, those pipes are located at Mendenhall Loop and Back Loop Road. The pipes at those locations collapsed and backed up.
