A less than ordinary quake struck the Northwestern portion of the state yesterday.

In an area that is much less prone to earthquakes than the lower portions of Alaska, a shaker woke residents of Kivalina and Point Hope.

An earthquake occurred 18.7 miles beneath the Bering Straits at 4:50 yesterday morning. It was located 52 miles south of Point Hope and 58 miles west of Kivalina.

The magnitude and depth was such that no Tsunami threat was realized.
