A young boy accidentally shot himself in the community of Kwethluk on Monday according to the father of the young boy.

According to the trooper dispatch, the boy’s father called in at 9:15 am on Monday to report that the 6-year-old boy had been playing with a .22 caliber pistol when it went off. The child accidently shot himself in the abdomen.

The child was medvaced to Bethel via LifeMed and then further transferred to Anchorage to undergo surgery to repair internal injuries.

He is currently listed in serious but stable condition at the Alaska Native Medical Center.
