Troopers continue to investigate a Saturday night pursuit that turned deadly near Seward on Saturday night with the body of the suspect being found at the bottom of a 100-foot cliff near the Stony Creek RV Park.

Troopers report that they attempted a traffic stop on a mini-four-wheeler near the intersection of Vinewood Lane and Bruno Road near Seward on Saturday night at approximately 10:27 pm, but the vehicle failed to stop and continued down the road.

Troopers from Soldotna, Cooper Landing, and Crown Point, as well as the  Bureau of Highway Patrol, responded to the scene to assist in the  apprehension of the suspect, later identified as 29-year-old Houston, Alaska resident Patrick Wallace.

The mini-ATV would later be located abandoned, but troopers were still unable to locate the driver. He had last been seen on foot near the Stony Creek RV Park.

Troopers impounded the vehicle and were in the process of taking it to the Crown Point Troopers station when a call came in from campers at the RV park stating that they had seen a person matching Wallace’s description walking down the hill by the park.

Troopers responded to the area and began a search on foot along with the canine “Scout.” Initially, the trail came up cold, but thirty minutes later, at 11:37 pm, Wallace was located at the bottom of a 100-foot cliff.

The Seward Police Department was notified and the station dispatched the Seward Volunteer Ambulance Corps to the scene. When they arrived at the scene, they pronounced Wallace deceased.

The State Medical Examiner’s office  in Anchorage requested Wallace’s remains be sent fort autopsy.

Next of kin was notified.

The investigation into the circumstances of Wallace’s death continue to be investigated.
