The Kodiak man who was the subject of an investigation by Alaska State troopers after they received a call from United States Coast Guard police at air station Kodiak on Thursday, was indicted by a federal grand jury on Friday on one count of assault causing serious bodily injury, and another for unlawfully entering the United States Coast Guard property, according to US Atty. Karen L. Loeffler.

Alaska State troopers received a call from the Coast Guard base in Kodiak requesting assistance in an assault investigation at 5:48 PM on Thursday afternoon. When troopers arrived at the base, they took the lead in the case. Their investigation revealed that 55-year-old Kodiak resident Michael Ensley, had gone on to the Coast Guard base and assaulted a civilian employee, causing that employee “serious physical injury,” according to Trooper dispatch.

Alaska State Troopers arrested Ensley, and transported him to the Kodiak city jail, where he was remanded on the charges without bail pending arraignment.

On Friday, it was announced that a federal grand jury in Anchorage had indicted Ensley on the charges. Ensley faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison, and a $250,000 fine, according to the US Department of Justice.

There are no details reported as to why the assault occurred.
