Alaska State Troopers say that they have apprehended an Anchor Point man who “was a person of interest in several recent crimes in the Homer area.” Homer police had issued a request to the public  for information of his whereabouts earlier in the day.

Troopers responded to a possible sighting of 29-year-old Anchor Point man, Dellan Vanbuskirk on Mark Lane on Friday. When they contacted him at a residence at that location, a “struggle ensued” and Vanbuskirk broke free and attempted to flee. He was caught after a 2-mile chase and arrested on a petition to revoke probation/parole warrant and two additional charges, one count of Resisting Arrest and one count of Disorderly Conduct.

Vanbuskirk was on probation for a November 2010 crime of Burglary I in a Dwelling and Assault IV. Those charges arose from a robbery incident that took place on the second floor of a Homer hotel. In that case, Vanbuskirk and another man, wearing masks, gained access to a couple’s room as they slept and attempted to rob them. The female victim screamed and struggled with Vanbuskirk and managed to pull his mask from his face. The male victim attempted to subdue Vanbuskirk using a bear hug, but was dragged onto the balcony, and down the stairs to the first floor.

The couple later identified both men as their attackers. The male victim told police that he had loaned Vanbuskirk $100 that night and that Vanbuskirk knew that the victim had as much as a thousand dollars on his person.

Vanbuskirk had several charged leveled against him in that case, but as a result of a plea agreement, he had all but two charges dismissed.
