February 8, 2016 JUNEAU – First Lady Donna Walker today encouraged Alaskans to nominate fellow citizens who have performed extraordinary volunteer service for the 2016 First Lady’s Volunteer of the Year Awards.
“In these challenging fiscal times, our volunteers will play an even greater role in helping those in need and in strengthening their communities,” said First Lady Donna Walker. “It is often said that volunteers don’t necessarily have the time, they have the heart and it is a heart that cares deeply about community and fellow Alaskans.”
First Lady Bella Hammond established the program in 1975 to recognize volunteers who have displayed extraordinary personal commitment and invested a significant amount of time to benefit their communities.
