ANCHORAGE, Alaska-An Anchorage man was arrested following a shooting which took place early yesterday morning.
At just before 1:00 a.m., Anchorage Police responded to the report of a shooting which had occurred at the Paradise Inn located at the 3000 block of Spenard Road.
The female who phoned police reported that she, her husband and his brother were at the Paradise Inn bar and they attempted to rent a room there. A disturbance between the three individuals and management ensued over the payment of the room and management decided they were not going to rent to the trio after all. The altercation continued into the parking lot of the hotel and at some point a weapon was pulled and a struggle ensued.
During the struggle, 25 year old Louie Gephart was shot in the hand. A motel employee, Craig Brown, 54, was also injured during the struggle. Brown suffered a gunshot wound to his right leg just above his knee that exited and entered his left leg just below the knee. Brown then left the area and retreated to a guest room.
Gephart and Brown were transported by medics to local hospitals where both men were treated for their injuries and released. Upon Brown’s release, he was transported to APD Headquarters to be interviewed by APD’s Robbery/Assault Detectives.
Following the interview, Brown was arrested and charged with one count of first degree assault, two counts of third degree assault and one count of third degree misconduct involving a weapon. He was remanded to the Anchorage Jail with no bail. Brown was arraigned yesterday at the Anchorage Jail Court.
