A 5:37 pm call to APD on Saturday evening reporting a burglary prompted officers to respond to the scene at an apartment complex on the 100-block of Michael Court. When they arrived at the scene, they observed that the coin dispensers on the washers and dryers in the shared laundry had been damaged.
The officer was advised that the security cameras had captured images of the suspect when he was breaking into the laundry room, but that it would take a while to download that footage. The officer asked that the caller contact the department when the surveillance footage was available.
Less than four hours later, at 9:19 pm, police were again contacted reporting that the burglar had returned and was attempting to steal coins from the machines at the same location. A description of the suspect was given to police and when they were responding to the location, they observed a person fitting the description standing on the corner of Michael Court and Peck Avenue.[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]Officers made contact with the man, who was identified as 29-year-old Kyle Poitry, and he was found to be in possession of a pry bar, drill bits, and a multi-tool. He was taken into custody as the investigation got underway.
Police looked at the surveillance footage and saw that the burglar in both cases was indeed Poitry. When the scene was investigated, they found that on both burglaries, Poitry was not successful in robbing the machines of their coins.
Court records show that Poitry was charged with three counts of Felony Burglary I, one count of Felony Criminal Mischief III, and one count of Possession of Burglary Tools.
