On Friday night, at about 9:30 pm, two hitchhikers contacted the Alaska State Troopers to report that they had been assaulted and robbed by a person who had picked them up on Kalifornsky Beach Road.
The two hitchhikers told troopers that they had managed to overpower the driver and escape the truck, but not until after the driver had produced a club from under his seat and threatened to cause the two hitchhikers harm if they did not give him their money.

Alaska State Troopers, using the description of the vehicle provided by the two hitch hikers, identified and encountered the vehicle near Anchor Point on the southern Kenai Peninsula.
Troopers identified the driver of the vehicle as 25-year-old Travis Lee McHone of Sterling. McHone was taken into custody and transported to Soldotna where he was interviewed by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation who had responded to take over the investigation.
McHone was booked into Spring Creek Correctional Center on two counts of Robbery II, Kidnapping, Assualt III, Evidence Tampering, and Theft III.
