A report went in to the Alaska State Troopers on Friday of an Altercation between two vessels near East Chugach Island at the End of the Kenai Peninsula.
An investigation into the incident by the Alaska State Troopers discovered that two vessels were fishing near the islands, one of the vessels was a private boat and the other a charter boat.
55-year-old Steven Button was piloting the charter vessel, when according to the boaters in the other vessel, Button navigated his craft directly at their boat, causing the three occupants of the boat to think he was going to collide with them. When he was within 10 feet , according to reports, Button abruptly turned away from the other craft.

According to the occupants, Button was traveling fast enough at the time to cause a wake large enough to travel over the gunnel and transom of the private boat. The report states that this put that boat in risk of swamping or suffering damage.
One of the boaters apparently almost went over the side during the incident, and all aboard were placed in fear of imminent serious physical injury due to the risk of collision or damage to their vessel.
Troopers contacted Button the next day on July 14th at the Homer Boat Harber. Button was placed under arrest and charged with three counts of Assault III, one count of Reckless Endangerment, and one count of Prohibited Operation of a Watercraft.
Button was remanded to the Homer Jail.
