The death of the 18-month-old child reported on December 1 after the already-deceased child was brought to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, has been deemed a homicide by authorities after an investigation by troopers and the Fairbanks Police Department.
The child, identified as Julian Swanson-Byrd, was brought to the hospital, where it was confirmed that he had been dead for quite some time.
According to the Department of Public Safety, the mother told officers that on Friday, November 29th, she had fallen asleep in her vehicle and woke up to find the child outside of her vehicle and further noticed that the passenger side window of her vehicle had been rolled down. She also told authorities that the young boy died the next day, on Saturday.

On Tuesday, an autopsy was conducted on the child and it was determined that the child had suffered blunt force trauma before he had died and his death was believed to be a homicide.
Later Tuesday, the mother of the child, 24-year-old Fairbanks resident Amber Lynn Swanson, was arrested and charged with Murder in the First Degree.. After her arrest, she was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where she was remanded without incident.
