Fairbanks police contacted and arrested a Fairbanks man, identified as 29-year-old Charles Darby, in a vehicle outside of the Arctic Bar in Fairbanks after receiving a call about a man with a weapon at the bar on the Old Steese Highway on Saturday.
When confronted in his beige Chevy Yukon, shortly after 1 am, a bloodied Darby was armed with a Grendel P-22 .380 caliber handgun. he gave up without incident, showing his hands. The gun, was absent a magazine, and had one round in the chamber. When queried as to why his face was bloodied, he told authorities he had fallen on the ice.
Witnesses in the bar, filled with an estimated 300 to 400 customers, reported that Darby pulled out the handgun and pointed at a man he was fighting with as well as others in the bar during a fight in which he was losing. He was identified by witnesses as “Number 7,” because of the jersey he was wearing at the time.
Darby was arrested and charged with Assault III, three counts of Reckless Endangerment, and Misconduct Involving Weapons IV and V. He was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where he was remanded and his bail set at $5,000.
Darby was arraigned on the charges on Saturday afternoon.
