Anchorage, Alaska – Ahtna, Incorporated announced that Matt Block has joined the Ahtna team as the new Corporate Counsel. Block will be based out of the Ahtna Anchorage office.
Block has been practicing as a business lawyer and litigator in Alaska since 2005. In that capacity, he represented several clients in contract, employment, land use, and commercial litigation matters. More recently, Block has worked on issues confronting Alaska Native tribes and on helping start-up companies manage their legal affairs, and is the current co-Chair of the Business Law Section of the Alaska Bar Association.
Prior to his career in law, Block worked in computers and technology as a programmer, system and network administrator and designer, and consultant. Block brings a unique perspective to Ahtna as a legal adviser as he has started and successfully operated innovative companies that were confronted by innovative legal challenges.
Block said upon accepting the offer, “When evaluating a new company, the first thing I look at is not the business idea but the people who will run it. As a family of companies, Ahtna is filled with great people who are poised to do great things, standing on the strong base they have inherited from years of careful stewardship and overcoming challenges. But even with that strong history, Ahtna is essentially a young company that I believe is entering a growth phase. I am thrilled to work with such a fantastic team at such an exciting time.”
Block was raised in Alaska and is married with three children. When he is not at work, he volunteers with the Boy Scouts, goes camping with his family, and teaches Sunday School.
