An Akiachak teen has been jailed and faces Arson charges after a Friday incident where he attempted to burn down his uncle’s house while the man was sleeping inside, the trooper dispatch reported on Saturday.
According to the trooper report, 19-year-old John Nick Jr had gotten into an altercation with his uncle, 57-year-old George Manutoli, over a cigarette. Then Nick left the residence, only to return approximately 30 minutes later as his uncle slept “and set the entryway of George’s home on fire,” using a can of gas that he brought with him.
After an investigation of the incident, Bethel-based troopers arrested Nick and charged him with Arson I and II and Criminal Mischief II.
At arraignment in Bethel on Saturday, Nick’s bail was set at $15,000 and no contact with his uncle.
