The Alaska State Troopers announced on Thursday that the extensive search for two men missing since Tuesday, October 22nd, has been called off.
Although the search that took place by land, sea and air has been called off by AST, the troopers will continue to work with the Association of Village Council Presidents and local community volunteers as those entities continue their search.
The two missing men, Jim Lee Napoka and Nick Cooke were last heard from on Tuesday when they called families to let them know that theyw ere all right and were continueing on to Tuntutuliak and expected to arrive in that village by Wednesday. But, the two men never arrived at their destination.
Instead, after they were reported missing and searches were initiated for the boaters, a boat matching the description of the boat used by the men was discovered at the mouth of the Galiq River on Sunday.
Searchers seeking the men looked at fish camps, sandbars, riverbanks and on the ground with no results.
