The Alutiiq Museum is excited to be launching our annual Fall Fundraiser! We would like to share with you some of the important projects we will be tackling in 2016 and ask for your support in making them a reality. Click the images below to find out more about each initiative. Or you can visit the Alutiiq Museum CrowdRise Page to donate to one or more of these efforts!
The Alutiiq Museum is partnering with Harvard University’s Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology to bring home a rare Alutiiq kayak in 2016. It will be on display for the next ten years. Help us to share the maritime traditions of the Alutiiq people with a donation to this project!
The museum is developing a publication based on Priscilla Russell’s research into Alutiiq plant use and we will need help from our plantlore–loving friends to make this project a success. We are planning to offer events for community members and visitors to learn about Kodiak’s environment.
Help us teach the Alutiiq language! Despite the growing number of new speakers, our Alutiiq language is severely threatened. With your support we can reach into classrooms and across the internet to share our ancestral language, and work with fluent Elders to record their priceless knowledge.
Help us invest in collection, exhibit, and study of Alutiiq Arts! Your donation will help the museum plan for exhibits, online tools, and our participation in arts activities, like our co-sponsorship of an international symposium on Alaska Native contemporary art in France next June.
