Troopers responded to Ambler for a gun disturbance that was reported to be happening between houses in the village.
Troopers were unable to locate the man. During their investigation, a report of a domestic disturbance involving a man named Shawn Johnson came in.
Troopers responded to the scene. As they were at the residence, Johnson arrived on a Honda ATV. According to reports, Johnson’s clothes matched the clothing of the man that was shooting between the buildings.
As troopers approached Johnson, he sped off on his Honda at high speed. Troopers attempted to pursue, but were unsuccessful. Johnson continued towards the airport.

As the officers continued to search for Johnson, they heard gunshots from the direction of the airport. The troopers were able to locate Johnson, but again Johnson fled the officers, this time he abandoned his Honda and took off on foot armed with a handgun.
The officers lost Johnson in the woods.
Additional State Troopers, Wildlife Troopers, as well as Kotzebue Police flew in on a chartered flight to assist in apprehending Johnson.
A short time later, Johnson was located at his residence. He was taken into custody without incident. While there, troopers retrieved the .22 caliber handgun that his family members took from Johnson before the troopers arrived.
The trooper investigation found that Johnson was driving under the influence, and driving while his license was revoked. He was charged with those charges as well as Failure to Stop at the Direction of Officers II, Misconduct Involving Weapons IV, and a Petition to Revoke Probation.
Johnson was transported to Kotzebue and remanded to the Kotzebue Regional Jail without bail.
