An Anchorage man, 59-year-old Charles Charlie, was arrested and charged with First Degree Burglary and First Degree Sexual Assault on Friday after an incident on Thursday night.
According to reports, the Anchorage Police Department responded to a call to an apartment complex on the 1000 block of West 26th Avenue on Thursday evening.
They responded to the apartment complex after receiving a call from a resident at the apartments, that reported that she had walked in on a sexual assault that was taking place at the apartment of one of her neighbors. The woman reported to police that she had gone to check on her neighbor when she heard suspicious noises coming from the apartment.
Upon entering, she reported to police that she saw an unknown male smothering the 53-year-old victim with a pillow as he was on top of her engaged in sex. The man got off of the victim, pulled up his pants and left the residence upon discovery.
The victim told officers that she had seen the assailant in the building before and thought that perhaps he was staying with another resident of the apartment building. Officers conducted an investigation but the man was no longer on the premises. After a positive identification by the neighbor, an arrest warrent was issued for Charlie.
Charlie was later arrested when he returned to the complex.
The Anchorage Police Department believes that there may be more victims of Charlie’s and urge persons that believe that they have been assaulted by the man to come forward.
Charlie is being held at the Anchorage Jail on $50,000 bail.
