Anchorage Man Arrested for Car Theft after REDDI Stop

An Anchorage man was arrested and jailed with his bail set at $15,000 after the Bureau of Highway Patrol responded to a REDDI report at mile 59 of the Parks Highway last Thursday.

When troopers ran the license plate of the reported vehicle, they would find that the vehicle was reported stolen out of Anchorage.

When questioning the driver of the vehicle, he initially gave them false identification. Troopers would ultimately positively identify the driver as 22-year-old John Brittain of Anchorage. It would be found that Brittain had two warrants for his arrest and had absconded from probation.

Brittain was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded on the two warrants, and the probation violation as well as new charges of Vehicle Theft I, Making a False Report and Driving without a Valid License.

In addition to his $15,000 bail, Brittain must also secure a COurt Approved Third Party Custodian before any possible release.

The vehicle was impounded for further investigation, pending release to it s owner.
