On Wednesday the 4th of January, Anchorage Police Department officers arrested Jason Genaw, a 33 year old Anchorage resident on charges of Theft 3rd degree, Assault 3rd degree and Robbery 1st degree.
According to witnesses and the Anchorage police investigation, Genaw entered the Ace Hardware store on 240 Muldoon Road at 1:46 pm on Wednesday and picked up a hole saw and a drill. He then left the store without paying for the items. As he ran from the store, a store employee pursued him. When the store employee caught up to the fleeing Genaw, Genaw dropped the stolen items and produced a knife, which he used in an attempt to slash the store employee. He was unsuccessful and the employee sustained no injuries.
After this confrontation, Genaw fled from the scene and entered a vehicle. Genaw was soon stopped by Anchorage police. the other occupants of the vehicle claimed to have no knowledge of the robbery that took place.
Genaw went before the District Court for arraignment on Thursday, the 5th at2:30 pm. His bail was set at $10,000 and a third party court approved custodian.
