ANCHORAGE– Today, the Anchorage Police Department announced the start of a downtown foot patrol. Officers will start assignment downtown at the end of November.
“Because of the community investment in APD and our progress rebuilding the department, we now have the ability to staff a dedicated downtown foot patrol,” said Chief Chris Tolley. “As we rebuild APD we will fortify other specialty units, patrols, and unsworn staff to enhance public safety.”
APD hopes to expand the foot patrol program as more officers complete training and staffing levels grow. The current full academy graduates December 1st and another academy begins December 19th.
“Downtown foot patrol is a big step forward – it connects officers with the community and the community with officers, and that means a safer Anchorage,” said Mayor Ethan Berkowitz.
The foot patrol boundary will be from L Street to Cordova and from 3rd Ave to 6th Ave, and will occur on all patrol shifts.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
